The Wasteland in Faramarzi Art Gallery

A wasteland is lurking to engorge the remaining of human existence; spreading on the margin of each village and waylaying gardens and farms, it’s an acquaintance of the expatriates; sluggish and patient, but still persistent.

Over the years as old as history, desert inhabitants learned how to challenge it; they were patient and persistent as well while being merely armed with shovels and picks. Due to their genius and life’s driving force they acquired the knowledge of panacea to this wilderness and succeeded to push the water up to the surface from the deep underground layers; they wrestled the barrenness of the desert and proceeded to reclaim the land; however in fine they disarmed and surrendered.

Neither deep qanāts nor dams were remedial, and the wasteland is still galloping forward.

The Iranian artists have always been apprehensive of this precarious phenomenon and each has alarmed about it through their own medium. Now a number of these painters, who have pictured this barrenness over many years, have gathered here in order to review their own remarks once more. However this gathering is not inclusive of all those concerned about this issue.
